School Activities

The Senior Choir has been on the go in our school for many years. Senior Choir is an after school activity which is open to any girls and boys from 4 th , 5 th  or 6 th  class who have an interest in singing. This year rehearsals take place on Thursdays, from 2:30 to 3:15 in Room 4, run by Ms Clinch and Ms Devane.

Every year the Senior Choir performs several times throughout the year. In the first term we work on improving our singing and building up a repertoire and end the term by singing at the Christmas Concert and the Carol Service. In the second term we sometimes take part in Corfheile na Scoileanna, which is a non-competitive music festival for schools from all around the country to perform in front of each other in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. This is always a great day out!

In the final term things get really busy when we sing at the school religious ceremonies – First Penance, Confirmation and First Communion. This is a lovely opportunity particularly for those with brothers or sisters making Communion or Confirmation. The Confirmation ceremony is always our biggest challenge – last year we sang 19 songs! – but we love it and it’s a great honour.

Other events arise from time to time. Last year we had an amazing opportunity to sing in The Helix as part of a concert called The Sound of Musicals. We were also delighted with our new red T-shirts that Mr Healy arranged for us before he left. We recorded Carol of the Bells for our school Christmas CD last year and the year before that we were involved in the Song Contest.

For anyone interested in joining the choir all we look for is dedication to weekly rehearsals and a willingness to participate. Please come and speak to Ms Clinch if you would like to join the Senior Choir.
