On Tuesday 24th March the girls 5-a-side soccer team competed in the Dublin finals in Irishtown. Twenty six schools took part in the competition and the first stage was a league section where we won four matches and drew one. No goals were conceded during this league section and some cracking goals were scored! We then moved on to the knock-out stages winning our quarter-final against Rathcoole to qualify for a semi-final against St Annes Shankill. This was the team that we had drawn with in the group stages and, once again, it was a tough close match with the score being nil all at the end of normal time. On to the dreaded penalties and the first penalty for Shankill was superbly saved by Aoife McLoughney. This gave us a great boost and we went on to win the shoot-out. Our opponents in the final were Presentation Terenure and another great performance saw us win 2-1 to be crowned Dublin champions. We look forward to representing Dublin in the Leinster finals in Meath at the end of April.
Big congratulations to all the girls involved; Aoife McLoughney, Emma Brady, Kirsten Hall, Kaitlyn Fitzgerald, Katie O’Sullivan, Erica Egan and Sophie Law.
