Cake sale a sweet success!

We had a great day at the annual Bunanza in our school. There was great fun and excitement around on Tuesday morning as each of the classes made their way to the hall to buy cakes, see the magnificent competition cakes and enjoy what is always one of the most anticipated days of the year. There was a ‘stream of kids and parents’ up Grove road this morning with all the wonderful creations. Thanks so much to all the teachers and families for all their help and support with this fundraising day for the school. More later on what has been a super day so far!

A frozen start expected for ‘Ollies’ travel challenge!

An Taisce are inviting schools to take part in the Big Travel Challenge by promoting a sustainable mode of transport of our choice for the month of February. Schools are invited to  take on the challenge of achieving a measurable increase in one mode of travel for a period of 15 school days for the month. We have decided to concentrate on “Walking All the Way” . This challenge starts TOMORROW  on our WOW day and will continue until 26th February. This morning was exceptionally IMG_1864cold so wrap up well!  The number of children walking all the way to school will be logged daily and sent into An Taisce at the end of the challenge by our Green team. Children in the senior school have been made aware of this challenge and are enthusiastic about committing to it with support from their parents. So lets get walking and fingers crossed weather is not  too bad! Brrr………

Powering Kindness a great success story in our school

The theme for our 7timgresh Green Flag is Global Citizenship. Part of the work for this flag is to learn about and support charities. With this in mind  children from 3rd to 6th classes supported three Irish Charities, Childline, Marie Keating Foundation and The Irish Heart Foundation  during the recent Powering Kindness Week. Children carried out acts of kindness and registered them on the powering kindness site and voted for their favourite charity.imgresElectric Ireland sponsored the week , donating 130,000 euro to be divided between the three charities, with the charity receiving the greatest number of votes getting the greatest proportion of the money.  Childline came out on top and received 60,000 euro to help fund the wonderful work they do. Well done to the 200 children from St Ollies who registered 748 acts of kindness and voted for a charity.

Special note:  Many thanks to Terri Ewing one of our parents and a volunteer for Childline who spoke to all the 3rd-6th class children helping to raise awareness of the valuable service Childline provides.
