Today has been a very special day in our school on Grove Road. Lt. Paul Dunne and Sgt. Jim Hoare from the Irish Army arrived to present our school with a copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic along with our National flag. This was the first of our planned events in the school to mark what is a very significant year in the history of our people and country next year with the 100th. anniversary of 1916. 

Nearly 1000 children, teachers, board of management, parents and representatives from our local community joined us here this morning to celebrate the delivery, presentation and raising of our National flag. We closed the event with the entire school standing to attention to sing ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’.

We look forward to a very special year next year in commemorating and remembering  those who gave their lives in 1916 for our independence.

There is a great buzz around our school today as we celebrate Dublin’s participation in the ‘big match’ on Sunday.

Children, teachers, cleaners, caretakers, lollipop ladies and many more have Malahide in a sea of blue.

Come on Dublin!!!!!!!!

Great news this morning from the Department of Education on the New Building.  We have satisfied all the requirements under the new building regulations and we have now moved to the next phase – a small step, but a significant one.

It feels like the child counting the sleeps to Christmas – we know it will be really exciting when it comes but we can only dream and wait it out as we are powerless to make the days move faster.  We will keep you posted of the progress over the next few crucial weeks and months.

This is All-Ireland Week and on  Friday our school is having a ‘blue’ day in support of Dublin’s senior footballers taking part in the All Ireland Football final VS Kerry on Sunday in Croke Park. Since the 1950’s Dublin have only beaten Kerry four times in Championship and this Sundays game promises to be a great contest. Can Dublin become the new All Ireland champions?

We are all going to try and wear the colour blue on Friday all around the school to create a sea of support to our counties football team.

The ‘FRIENDS for Life’ programme is a school-based positive health and wellness programme.  Through participating, children develop their emotional intelligence, and learn invaluable skills to enable them to cope with the many demands of 21st Century life. Friends for Life improves social skills, ability to focus, confidence, communication skills, and the ability to relax and regulate emotions. It is proven to reduce anxiety and give children the tools they need to cope in stressful and challenging situations.

We ran this programme with a few classes last year and the feedback from the children and their parents has been extremely positive. This term we are starting with our Fifth Classes and the children in the Reading Classes. In order for the children to really benefit and get the best from the programme, it is essential that it is encouraged and supported by the family.  To read more click StOPS – Friends for Life.
