Huge Interest in Musical

Untitled1The Organisers waited with bated breath at registration and first rehearsal for “Hairpray”.  It’s always hard to know how many will turn up because it takes a huge commitment on the part of the children.  But the organisers could hardly believe their eyes (or their ears) with the volume of the group which presented on the day.

Over 150 boys and girls, all committed and eager.  So now its definitely all systems go.

Untitled2So watch out for news of tickets – they’ll be hard to come.  Bruce Springsteen will be in the halfpenny place – watch this space – we can do 3 nights in less than half hour!!

St. Brigid’s day

Today is theIMG_5536 1st of February and St. Brigid’s day. In our school today there were lots of stories, information, construction and games based on our Patron saint St. Brigid. She lived during the time of St.Patrick and was inspired by his preachings and she became a Christian. Brigid decided that she would spend her life working for God by looking after poor, sick and elderly people. Legend says that she prayed that her beauty would be taken away from her so no one would seek her hand in marriage; her prayer was granted. News of Brigid’s good works spread and soon many young girls from all over the country joined her in the convent. Brigid founded many convents all over Ireland; the most famous one was in Co. Kildare. Making a St. Brigid’s cross is one of the traditional rituals in Ireland to celebrate the beginning of early spring, 1st February. St. Brigid died in AD 525 at the age of 75 and was buried in a tomb before the High Altar of her Abbey church.

Ollies choir in ‘Peace Proms Practice’

Yesterday the senior choir had the great experience of  rehearsing for Peace Proms in the National Show Centre. They will perform in the Peace Proms on Feb 6th in the RDS with over 2000 other children from choirs around Leinster. Yesterday excitement was obvious as they boarded the bus at 9.30am for the National Show Centre. They practised such hits as Imagine by John Lennon  and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars in what was a great days practice for the Peace Proms. They are really looking forward to a great day in February.
